Responsibility calls for security
Museums bear a special responsibility when it comes to collecting and preserving irreplaceable cultural assets. They have to address a wide variety of issues from acquisitions and restoration, storage and shipping to displaying works and designing exhibition rooms. And, of course, how to best protect what are often high-priced works of art and cultural artefacts.

Experts specialised in the art and cultural business
It is therefore a bonus when you have a partner who is well versed in risk management. Our art experts support you in all aspects of museum or exhibition operation – and work with you to develop tailored insurance solutions based on your specific insurance requirements.

The risk of
public spaces

As a museum, you face special risks. For your job is to collect, preserve and research the valuable objects entrusted to your care – and to make them accessible to the public at large. Yet, by its very nature, the exhibition business is often exposed to unavoidable risks.

Our tailored insurance solutions efficiently cover all risks – and we additionally support you with an extensive range of services.

Insurance for exhibits in storage
This insurance provides premium coverage for exhibits in storage or on permanent loan. Insurance coverage can be optionally extended to include exhibition fittings, such as plinths or showcases. You can also insure your library and the merchandise in the museum shop.

Insurance for exhibits on loan
ERGO also provides professional protection for the often challenging business of loaning exhibits – either in combination with the storage option or via a separate insurance. Would you like to insure temporary exhibitions? This, too, is possible. We will be happy to advise you.

Risks that defy

More than just a dent
A partner museum asks you to loan them a certain work of art for a special exhibition. During transport to the museum, another vehicle bumps into the back of the transport van. The precious artwork is badly damaged. ERGO pays for its restoration.

Night at the museum
Two culprits break into a museum at night, destroy some of the display cases with axes and steal several exhibits. ERGO not only replaces the value of the stolen artworks, but also pays for the destroyed display cases.

A moment’s distraction
Engrossed in a painting, a visitor overlooks the cordon, stumbles and grabs the canvas to stop themselves crashing to the floor. The painting is torn and scratched, but luckily can be restored. ERGO pays for the damage.
